 Description
Set in the centre of a traditional whitewashed Andalucian village of Almachar, the house has been both a family home and a profitable, fully licenced holiday let.

The Casa de Luz (the house of light) is a 200 year old Spanish village house, restored by a Danish architect and a local master builder. Built on three floors in the style of a Moorish riad, the rooms are arranged around a central atrium with a translucent roof that floods the house with light. There are 5 large bedrooms and the living areas are open plan. At the top a spacious upper lounge leads to a large roof terrace with panoramic views across the village, the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda and the great Mount Maroma.

Far from the tourist trail, the house is 50 minutes drive from Málaga airport and 35 minutes from the city itself (now home to more museums and galleries than any other provincial capital in Spain). It’s 20 minutes from the coast and 45 minutes from some of the best deserted beaches in Andalucia. Granada is one and a half hours away and Córdoba two and a half hours.
The house has been both a family home and a profitable, fully licenced holiday let

Almáchar is a Moorish “white village”.  Between the tenth and the sixteenth centuries the Moors who ruled Andalucia decreed that all the buildings should be lime-washed to maintain public sanitation and resist disease. Thus the tradition of the white villages began.

Almáchar’s size - about two thousand people at the last count - often gives it the feel of a bustling little town. With four or five general stores, two butchers, a fresh fishmonger, a bakery, farmers warehouse, a co-operative for processing and selling fruit, two banks, a weekly market, shops that sell “a little bit of everything” plus several bars and a restaurant, - you the sense that you can get more or less all you need here if you know where to look. An arts centre, health centre, theatre, gallery, flamenco bar and swimming pool cater for the higher things in life.
